. In India, most young girls are trained at home by their mothers for the most important day of their life: the marriage.
. For more than 2000 years, the Hindu society has been structured by the laws of Manu that states that women: “depend on men, first of all her father, then her husband, and after his death, her son”. The married woman is first subjected to the authority of her parents-in-law and then of her husband.
. In the last twenty years, feminist movements have emerged and the women’ status has improved. Nowadays, some women have got job positions traditionally taken by men and hence, they have got some independence. Here is the testimony of one of these women: Poonam Chawla.
